Early Careers Senior Consultant, UCAS
The National Apprenticeship Service and UCAS are about embark on the 2nd year of a partnership to promote and support the Apprenticeship opportunity in England.
2017 saw NAS attend 29 UCAS exhibitions throughout England as the lead partner of the career zone, and in 2018 NAS will be present at 31 exhibitions in England leading the conversation on degree apprenticeships.
This will give up to 100,000 young people the opportunity to find out about Apprenticeships and meet employers eager to find new talent for their programs.
March will see up to 15,000 young people visit Manchester central arena over 2 days with the likes of Airbus, EY, PWC and Rolls Royce supporting NAS promoting apprenticeships. Then in April at the Excel arena another 15,000 young people will have the opportunity to discuss apprenticeships with the likes of Google, CGI and experience contemporary content delivery from NAS using seminars and 360 degree video content.
For the employers attending these events it’s a fantastic opportunity to onboard new talent at the school leaver stage and explain the huge benefits which can come with a degree apprenticeship.
To compliment this live experience all NAS apprenticeships listing are also listed on the UCAS career finder platform careerfinder.ucas.com which has seen double the views and applications in 2018 from 2017. This allows employers to promote their apprenticeships opportunities on a platform where they know young people will be reasearching and helps give a full breadth of the education and careers options they have.
Carolyn Savage from NAS:
“The National Apprenticeship Service who are part of DfE are working in partnership with UCAS to ensure a joined up approach to promoting higher and degree apprenticeships to citizens and schools and to ensure that the benefits of apprenticeships are understood alongside the traditional route of full time university.
“The apprenticeship reforms across England are increasing the number of apprenticeship standards available at the higher and degree level and this means that students now have a wider choice when progressing to higher education and that more employers are offering apprenticeship vacancies at this level across a wider range of job roles.”
Tristan Luton from UCAS:
“The partnership between UCAS and NAS forms an important part of our mission to offer multiple routes into higher education.
“Our exhibition season in particular sees up to 180,000 young people attend an event with the goal of exploring their options, having NAS as a big part of these events gives the chance to research the full breadth of the exciting opportunities before them. Whether that be a university degree, degree apprenticeship or another school leaver program, we have over 100 universities and employers ready to meet our audience.”
